EOLMED Project

Within the frame of a call for project, the French Government has selected Eolmed, the consortium assembled around BW Ideol’s floating technology, for the development and construction of a 30MW Mediterranean offshore wind farm (3 wind turbines) 15 km off the coastal town of Gruissan.


The consortium is led by the French renewable energy developer Qair and includes Total, BW Ideol and its Damping Pool concrete floater and the wind turbine manufacturer MHI Vestas.


The commissioning of the wind farm is expected by 2025. The FID was announced in May 2022, read here.

BW Ideol is a project partner and supplier of the floating foundation technology.

Schedule 

Summer 2016 : attribution of the Gruissan site to the consortium Qair - BW Ideol

2017-2018 : engineering and application for authorisation 

May 2022 : FID

2022-2025 : construction

2025 : operation for a 20 year period

BW Ideol AS, a global leader in floating offshore wind, and Associated British Ports (ABP), the largest port operator in the UK, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to investigate the feasibility of serialised production of concrete substructures for floating offshore wind turbine foundations based on the BW Ideol design at ABP’s port of Port Talbot.
