EOLMED Project
In operation since May 2026, EOLMED is 3 x 10 MW turbines wind farms on Damping Pool® technology floaters in the French Mediterranean.
Within the frame of a call for project, the French Government has selected Eolmed, the consortium assembled around BW Ideol’s floating technology, for the development and construction of a 30MW Mediterranean offshore wind farm (3 wind turbines) 15 km off the coastal town of Gruissan.
In April 2026, EolMed injected its first electrons onto the transmission grid operated by RTE, before reaching full capacity in May 2026. With three 10 MW turbines mounted on floating foundations, EolMed is one of the first multi-turbine floating wind farms connected in the French Mediterranean and a structuring milestone for the emerging French floating wind sector.
The consortium is led by the French renewable energy developer Qair and includes TotalEnergies and BW Ideol, whose patented Damping Pool® technology underpins the floating foundations. For this project, the floaters were built in steel. The wind turbines are supplied by Vestas.
Largely built in France and the rest of Europe, the floater’s blocks were assembled on the industrial quay of Port-La-Nouvelle before being towed to the installation site.
Installation was performed during winter period, demonstrating the excellent stability of this assert and simplicity of offshore operations with Damping Pool@ Barge.
Beyond its role as a pilot, EolMed serves as a demonstrator for the upcoming commercial floating wind tenders launched by the French State, confirming the maturity of the Damping Pool® design at multi-turbine scale and the excellent scalability to larger WTG
For coming projects in mediterranean sea, BW Ideol will act as EPC provider of floating foundation in concrete, supplied from Gantry Slip Form Serial Production Facility, in order to provide an industrial and competitive solution to the floating market
BW Ideol's scope of work
On EolMed, BW Ideol acts both as a co-developer of the project, with a 5% equity stake, and as the supplier of the floating foundation technology. The company provided the engineering and licensing of its patented Damping Pool® design, which underpins the three floaters..
